Project description: “Critical spots in undergraduate cartographic education: analysis and initial interpretation of the results of a longitudinal study” is the project with student cooperation.
The main goal of the long-term plan is to create a discussion platform on cartographic education not only at Czech universities. A potential outcome of such a platform in the future may be the innovation of curricula of courses in which students study the basics of cartography, taking into consideration the specifics of the graduate profile of the respective study programmes and, of course, the needs of the labour market.
The main goal of the project is to identify critical spots in the teaching of cartography by students of undergraduate studies in geography and related disciplines at UJEP in Ústí nad Labem. Further (secondary) goals are to follow up on this identification (a) on the didactic level to try to describe the probable causes of the high difficulty for undergraduate students at UJEP in Ústí nad Labem, (b) on the cartographic level to compare the situation across Czech higher education institutions (min. three other institutions) that provide education in cartography, through a discussion platform (workshop) with the participation of cartography didacticians.
