Geography

The masters programme is an academic field of study. The programme offers broadening geographic knowledge from the bachelor’s study. It mostly includes interdisciplinary seminars and applied topics. The study develops the skills in finding and assessing geographic information sources of various types, analysis and interpreting the obtained spatial information, using modern geoinformation tools to analyse and present the student’s work. Furthermore, the student can apply geoinformation tools in public administration (property register, landscape conservation, land-use planning) and create GIS projects solving specific problems. The programme also includes seminars guaranteed by experts from the Faculty of Social and Economic Studies, such as Innovation and Innovative Concepts in Regional Development. Attention is paid to the critical discussion of the application of geographic research methods. The students also develop their skills to design the new methodological frameworks suitable for their research topics. Graduates have an option to continue in doctoral studies in the field of Geography or in a similar field of study at another university, or to develop their career in public and private sector.

Geography – teachers training

Teachers training for Elementary and Secondary Schools is provided in major-minor combinations and is designed for graduates of bachelors programmes in the respective fields of study. The programme focuses on studying the selected approbation fields of study and their specialized curricula and instructions, in combination with educational and psychological disciplines. Students also develop their teaching skills at selected elementary and secondary schools. The study is completed with a final state examination in major and minor, and in education science and psychology, and a diploma thesis defense. Graduates acquire a qualification as teachers at the second level of elementary school and at secondary schools complying with Czech legislation.
