Personal profile
Jiří Anděl studied geography at the Faculty of Natural Sciences of Charles University in Prague. In the past, he worked at the Institute for Philosophy and Sociology of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences and at the Research Institute of Construction and Architecture in Prague. Since 1993, he has been an employee of the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. His research is devoted to questions of the complex concept of the region from the local to the macro-regional level. This issue includes both sociogeography, geodemography and environmental geography, as well as the methodology of geography itself. During his numerous study trips, he visited all European states and continents (75 countries in total). In 2016, he completed a trip around the world, which became an inspiration for publishing activities, especially didactically focused ones. He is, for example, the co-author of Geography for primary schools, secondary schools and gymnasiums or the co-author of the book Macroregions of the World / New Regional Geography. It won the Jaroslav Jirsa Award for the best textbook. He is a laureate of the prize of the Governor of the Ústí Region in the science and research category and an honorary member of the Czech Geographical Society.
