Personal profile

I studied history and geography at Masaryk University in Brno (M.A.) and physical geography at the same university (Ph.D.). I have completed two study stays in Germany (Universities of Osnabrück and Freiburg) and two work placements (in Münster and Halle an der Saale). Since 2009 I have been working as an assistant professor at the Department of Geography at J. E. Purkyně University (UJEP) in Ústí nad Labem. I have carried out several research stays at the Institut für Volkskunde der Deutschen des östlichen Europa (Freiburg, Germany). I focus long-term on the research of stone walls and lynchets and their vegetation. I am also involved in projects dedicated to historical geography and environmental history, for example on the topics as use/land cover changes (notably of vineyards and orchards) or adaptation of human society to the harsh natural conditions of mountain areas. In recent years I have also focused on selected forms of culture of remembrance of the Sudeten Germans. In particular, photo books of the publisher and artist Adam Kraft.
